Study Confirms Prebiotic and Synbiotic Health Benefits of Hi-maize

A recently published animal study has shown that Hi-maize natural fiber from National Starch Food Innovation, in combination with a probiotic bacterium, increases the body’s defense against cellular damage by more than 30%. According to the company, this biomarker is relevant for potentially reducing the risk of developing colon cancer. The study, conducted at Flinders University in South Australia, and published in The Journal of Nutrition, demonstrated that Hi-maize and the probiotic bacteria Bifidobacterium lactis improved the acute apoptotic response to a carcinogen by 33%.
